A typical thatched roof costs more than its cement tiled or slated roof counterparts. But, since the carpentry and wood work needed to support a thatched roof is less expensive, overall costs are comparable. Furthermore, there are no gutters, downpipes, soakaways, soffit boards, or the need to paint and maintain these items.
