Intro:
Sidson craftworks offer a specialist thatching service anywhere in Ireland. Sidson prides itself in providing quality craftsmanship coupled with inspired design. No job is too small and no distance too far. We thatch exclusively in reed and endeavor to use only natural and sustainable materials in the construction of our designs. Water reed thatching is a proven system with a life expectancy in excess of 60 years.

A thatched roof is sturdy and durable and is an effective barrier against all the elements, and impenetrable to bugs, birds and vermin.

About thatching:

Thatching is the art and craft of covering a roof with vegetation such as straw, water reed, sedge, rushes and heather. It's the oldest roofing tradition and has been used in both tropical and temperate climates throughout the world. Thatch is still commonly employed by traditional builders in developing countries, usually with low-cost, local vegetation. But in Western Europe it is no longer a roofing material of the poor, but commonly used in the countryside.

Our thatching:

Thatch is not only beautiful on the eye, but also environmentally beautiful. From harvest to the finished roof, thatch uses a minimal amount of energy. Once upon the roof, the reed acts as a carbon store. Carbon drawn from the atmosphere during the growth period is locked within the reeds for the life of the roof.
